Register a domain name under .lv directly on the NIC.LV website or via any of service providers - registrars who will help you to register the domain name and will offer all the necessary support for your website, e-mail address, etc.

WHAT IS A DOMAIN NAME?

A domain name is a unique name that represents the online identity of you, your company or organisation. A domain name can be used to locate your website or social media profile, as well as a part of an e-mail address.

A domain name is made up of a minimum of two parts, separated by a dot.

Technical requirements for the domain name:

• The domain name length should not be shorter than 2 and longer than 63 characters;
• The hyphen “-“ may not be used at the beginning and at the end of the domain name;
• Latvian domain names can also contain diacritical marks - ā, ē, ī, ū, ō, ķ, ļ, ņ, ŗ, ģ, š, č, ž.

WHO CAN BE A HOLDER OF A DOMAIN NAME UNDER .LV?

Any natural or legal person from any country may obtain the right to use a particular domain name under .lv. To enter into an agreement, the natural person has to be at least 18 years old.

WHERE TO REGISTER A DOMAIN NAME UNDER .LV?

• Directly via NIC.LV on-line system by filling in and submitting the domain name registration form
  

OR

• Via our service providers or registrars.

HOW TO REGISTER A DOMAIN NAME UNDER .LV?

To register a domain name follow these three simple steps:

1. Choose the most appropriate domain name for you, your company or organisation and check its availability using WHOIS service;
2. Read the Policy for the acquisition of the right to use domain names under the top-level domain .lv to ensure that the domain name you wish to register does not infringe the rights of a third person;
3. Fill in and submit the registration form.

Domain name registration forms received by NIC.LV are reviewed on ‘first come, first served’ basis.

WHAT IS THE FEE FOR THE DOMAIN NAME REGISTRATION AND RENEWAL?

ATTENTION! Please visit the respective websites of our registrars for more information on their prices and other offers.

• The governmental or municipal institutions of Latvia can register one domain name per organisation free of any charges for the period of one year, including the right to renew the domain name registration;
• A natural person with the domicile in Latvia has the right to register one domain name under generic second-level domain .id.lv for free.

It is possible to pay:

• by bank transfer;
• by our NIC online payment system. Online we accept VISA and EC/MC cards;

If the invoice issued for the domain registration is not paid within the time limit prescribed in the invoice, there is a reminder e-mail sent to one of the contact persons’ e-mail addresses. If NIC.LV does not receive the payment within 14 days from the day the reminder e-mail was sent, the domain name is deleted from the .lv zone. It is available for new registration after a 30-days hold period.
