  1. General Terms

    Terms used in this Policy herein shall have the meaning given to them in the Policy for Acquisition of the Right to Use Domain Names Under the Top-Level Domain .LV.

  2. Purpose of the Policy

    NIC Whois policy establishes obligations of NIC.LV and WHOIS user, as well as defines allowed use of WHOIS.

  3. What is WHOIS?

    1. The name of the WHOIS consists of two English words “who” and “is” (as in the question – Who is?).

    2. WHOIS is directory service specified by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) in RFC 812, 954, 3912 documents.

  4. Public Data

    1. If the domain name holder is a legal person, the WHOIS displays the following data:

    2. If the domain name holder is a natural person, the WHOIS displays the following data:

    3. For the use in WHOIS, it is recommended for legal persons to create a designated email that does not contain employee’s name and surname.

    4. The data not specified in this Policy are not public and are used solely for conclusion and performance of the agreement. These data can be obtained by third party in cases provided by law. Request should be made in writing and be pursuant to enactments of the Republic of Latvia.

    5. In order to contact the domain name holder who is a natural person, it is possible to use WHOIS communication form.

  5. Technical Limitations

    1. WHOIS data are renewed 4 times per 24 hours.

    2. In order to prevent data mining, the limit of queries per IP address is introduced.

    3. Advanced search is not available, and it is not possible to query by holder’s name, email, address, phone or fax.

    4. NIC.LV has taken the following measures:

      1. Before the query of the WHOIS, the user must read and agree to the Terms of Use of the WHOIS;

      2. In the web WHOIS, each query shall be assigned an automatically generated random code that requestor has to type in before the display of output appears.

  6. Terms of Use of WHOIS

    1. By submitting a WHOIS request, the requestor agrees that:

      1. The WHOIS service is provided solely for information purposes;

      2. It is permitted to use the WHOIS service only for technical or administrative needs associated with the operation of the Internet or in order to contact the domain name holder over legal problems;

    2. Requestor will not use information obtained using WHOIS:

      1. to allow, enable or in any other way support sending of unsolicited mails (spam);

      2. for any kind of advertising;

      3. to disrupt stability and security of the Internet.

    3. It is not permitted to obtain (including copying) or re-use in any form or by any means all or quantitatively or qualitatively significant part of the WHOIS without NIC.LV’s express permission.

  7. Change of Policy

    1. The NIC WHOIS Policy can be changed, if necessary. NIC.LV will publish all changes of this Policy on the website www.nic.lv by special announcement of the changes.
