ICANN Webinar: Bizarre and Unusual Uses of the DNS

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is hosting the next webinar covering all of Europe. This initiative brings together the Nordic, Central European, and Baltic regions’ training series, offering an opportunity for all European residents to gain valuable insights and discuss the most relevant issues in the field of Internet governance.

In this webinar, Peter Lowe will give an overview of some of the more unusual and creative ways the DNS has been used—many of which were likely never intended or envisioned by its inventors. From static traceroutes to entire protocols built on top of the DNS, this session will explore DNS tools, toys, tunneling, filesystems, and more.

While many of these uses are now part of internet history, revisiting them can be both fun and educational.
