NIC have developed and published a new version of whois service available at whois.nic.lv and on the website www.nic.lv/whois. The main features of the new version are:

Better readability
The results are gouped and separated by titles. We have removed some data without any significant informative value to the users. At the same time we now offer additional information, e.g. information about the registrar who maintains the domain name.

Higher speed
Now all the requests are processed by 115% faster than before.

Enhanced accessibility
Whois can be used over IPv4 or IPv6 network.

Flexibility
The new version has been designed to take into account the fast changing environment of the internet. Should the necessity occur we will easily provide new information, e.g. if the DNSSEC is activated for a particular domain name.

Following the best practice of other registries we have definted more precise rules for using whois.

In the new whois solution we have also introduced a different model for limiting requests from an IP address. By default there are 100 requests allowed from an IP address per day. To our partners registrars we offer increased limit of 5000 requests per day.
